Our Story

Since September of 2007, FUSE has been bringing together young adult Christians from across Long Island. They have hosted monthly events throughout Suffolk County that have brought people together from as far east as Riverhead, and as far west as Nassau County.

These coffeehouses, service projects, and outreaches all started in 2006 with God sharing His vision through a Church on the Sound member and recent college grad, Jillian. She was involved with the young adult group at Church on the Sound, and filled a leadership role there that mirrored the one she had held at her college’s young adult group.

“I had helped establish the group at my college and was excited to do great things back home, but it seemed that there just weren’t enough young adults in my church to make an impact.”

She began to talk to other young Christian adults, and found that many of them were experiencing the same frustrations. There were small pockets of young adults in each church, but there seemed to be no way to connect. That’s when God opened Jillian’s heart to the vision that would become FUSE.

“If we all came together, we could have such a greater impact on Long Island for God, and we wouldn’t feel so alone!”

This concept, although freshly formed, was so exciting that she had to let other Christian young adults know what God had told her.

She shared her idea with some friends, and several eagerly joined with her and began forming the framework for FUSE. Not only were her friends on board, but church leaders and mentors committed to pray and work for FUSE. It was through prayerful meetings that FUSE received its statement of faith and its moniker “FUSE”, which stands for Fellowship, Unity, Service, and Evangelism.

The next step was to get the word out, and it was decided that the leaders of young adult groups from across Suffolk County should gather to share in the vision. A meeting in August 2007 was set up, and it was not long after, on September 29th, when the very first FUSE coffeehouse was held at Church on the Sound. “God had exceeded our faith goal and we had well over 50 people simply by word of mouth!”

This was truly just the beginning of God’s plans for the adults of Long Island. A carefully sought out core leadership team of Carla, Dan, Liz, and Julio was formed for FUSE, and their various talents and those of their spiritual mentors continue to make FUSE a success today.

As God continues to foster FUSE’s growth, the FUSE team is looking forward to bringing even more people together and having the community of believers be even closer and more involved with one another, as well as having a greater influence and impact on Long Island for Christ!  They invite you to join with them and become a part of God’s vision for the young adults of Long Island!
